Obituary

Our Lord and Savior carried our beloved, admired and respected David Eugene Brusilow on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, to his home in heaven after a courageous battle with cancer.

His compassion, sense of humor, and generosity of spirit made him a beloved pillar in his family and community. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer thoughtful advice, and support those around him.

The son of the renowned conductor Anshel Brusilow and the remarkable Marilyn Dow Brusilow, family was always David's priority. He shared the gravitational center of his family life on earth with the love of his life and wife, Rebecca Mallory Brusilow (Becky). They were surrounded by family: Melody Haines Brusilow, with whom David had two beloved children, Jessica (married to Eric Rollins) and Kyle (married to Christie Keenan); the children of Becky : Christopher (Chip) Ragsdale, Brandi Ragsdale, and April Ragsdale whom David embraced as his own children to blend their families, and nine grandchildren, Serenity House Briggs, Emily House, Makayla Ragsdale, Allie Ragsdale, Sapphire Ragsdale, Madeleine Rollins, Jameson Rollins, Ethan Brusilow, and Cora Brusilow, all of whom who cherished their 'Poppy'.

David is survived by his loving sisters, Jennie Brusilow Smith (Jack Smith) and Melinda Brusilow McIntyre (Mike McIntyre), as well as his niece Amy Smith Carr (Adam Carr) and nephews Stephen Smith (Sara Gonzales Smith) and Jon David Cobb all of whom he treasured spending time, often hosting holiday celebrations, filled with laughter, kindness, and his infectious sense of humor.

Following his attendance at Southern Methodist University earning both his undergraduate degree and law degree, he began a successful 47-year legal career in Dallas specializing in real estate, corporate and business law and developing his reputation for unwavering commitment to his clients, his exceptional legal knowledge, and his kind-hearted nature. The law firm in which he practiced for more than 30 years with his friend and colleague, Michael Ginsberg merged with Coats Rose, PC, in 2016 where thereafter he served as a Director, and made significant contributions to the firm's success and earned the respect of both his peers and clients.

David was an active member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and was awarded his 50-year pin in 2024. An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of The Clubs of Prestonwood and a past president of the Men's Golf Association. He and Becky rarely missed a Dallas Stars game. Known fondly by friends as the "Commish," he enjoyed running Fantasy Football and Fantasy Golf leagues for many years.

David was deeply committed to giving back to his community, supporting organizations such as the International Student Foundation, the Dallas Leadership Foundation, Genesis Women's Shelter, Apartment Life, and the Richardson Symphony Orchestra.

Second only to family, David was a man of deep faith. David and Becky were devoted members of St. Andrew Methodist Church in Plano. He was profoundly inspired by the teachings of Scott L. Engle, Ph.D., and found spiritual enlightenment on two visits to the Holy Land. In his final days, he was blessed to receive communion from Senior Pastor Arthur Jones, a moment of peace and faith he held dear. His favorite Bible verse, Micah 6:8, was a guiding principle in his life:

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.

And what does the Lord require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy

and to walk humbly with your God."

David lived with unwavering faith and often reminded those around him: "Remember, God wins."

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in the main sanctuary of St. Andrew Methodist Church, 5801 W. Plano Pkwy, Plano, TX 75093. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church parlor.

David's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
