Richard Glenwood (Dick) Davies passed away December 15 after a three year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Dick was born November 9, 1932 to Ruth and Glenn Davies. He grew up in Irving and graduated from Irving High in 1950. He joined the Navy in 1951 and served as a Sonarman. He was aboard the U.S.S. Rendova and participated in the testing of the first hydrogen bomb, "Operation Ivy Mike" in 1952 on Enewetak, an atoll in the South Pacific. After his honorary discharge from the Navy, Dick returned to Dallas and attended SMU where he received his bachelor's degree in Journalism. He was the Editor of the school newspaper, President of his fraternity, Sigma Delta Chi, a member of the Blue Key National Honor Fraternity and graduated Sigma Cum Laude. After graduation, Dick worked at Texas Instruments as a technical writer and then at Meisel, as VP of Marketing. But his entrepreneurial spirit drove him to start Hightech Signs in 1985 where he was a pioneer in the use of computer generated vinyl graphics that all sign shops use today. After franchising and selling Hightech, he moved to Tyler in 1992 where he began fulfilling his longtime dream of building custom homes. He continued his career as a homebuilder and commercial builder and developer in Tyler until he was diagnosed with PF in October, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronnie Davies. He is survived by brother, Bob Davies and wife Mary, sister, Glenna Sullivan and husband Peter, children, Karen Fair, Lisa Prince, Michael and Joey Davies, grandsons, Christopher Davies, Logan and Grayson Fair and Troy Prince. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 22 at 2:00 at Crosspointe Community Church in Tyler.
