Obituary

Henry Evan Davis III was born on January 8, 1920 and joined his wife, Mary (Polly) van Buren, in heaven on November 6, 2019. His 99 years were lived fully and well, devoting most of his time to serving and enjoying his family. He was active throughout his life, enjoying golf, photography, gardening, woodworking, Tai Chi and reading voraciously. Henry was born in Williamson, West Virginia to Dr. Henry Evan Davis and Maxie Williamson Davis. He grew up during the Great Depression in Williamsburg, Virginia. He graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1947 after serving his country in the United States Navy. He served during WW II as an officer on destroyers USS Roper, USS Stevens and USS Gregory in both the Atlantic and Pacific naval campaigns. On October 6, 1948, Henry and Mary MacLeod van Buren were married in Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Virginia. They moved to Dallas, Texas in 1952 where they remained until their final days. He was a Security Administrator with Temco, Chance Vought, and Ling-Temco-Vought until his retirement. Henry is survived by son Henry Evan Davis IV, his wife Melinda Cray, their son Christopher White, son Joseph van Buren Davis, his wife Christine, and daughter Leslie Stone Davis, her daughters Mary (Molly) vanBuren Pylant, and Julia Pylant Palmer and her husband Christopher Hultgren Palmer. Services will be held at the DFW National Cemetery at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Genesis Woman's Shelter & Support or the charity of your choice.
