Obituary

Kathryn "Kay" Gavis Davis, of Plano, Texas, passed away in Richardson, Texas on November 8, 2017 at the age of 76 years. Kay was born on January 31, 1941 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to John Stanley Gavis and Julia Wawszczyk Gavis. She grew up in Winchester, Virginia with her siblings; John Jr., Joan, and Martin. Kay graduated from John Handley High School. She moved with her husband, George Lynn Davis, to New Mexico where she spent about 10 years working in the field of academics as a clerk and secretary. The Davis family moved to and resided in Fort Worth, Tx for 20 years following college; subsequently moving to San Diego, CA and Tallahassee, FL, before settling down in Plano in 1992 in order to be closer to grandchildren. Kay loved to sew and used her talents to make clothes, table cloths for church, and decorative pieces for her home. She was a Girl Scout Group Leader and served as a volunteer for a hospice group in Fort Worth, Texas. Kay was active in church activities such as bereavement, womens bible studies, flower ministry, among many others at Good Shepherd Parish in Tallahassee and then Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Plano, Texas. She had an unshakable faith in Gods providence which was the foundation for her confidence that "everything would turn out fine". Kays ever present smile and warm greeting welcomed friends and strangers alike. She was a beloved grandmother who had time for all the activities of her grandchildren; including daily swims, weekly pizza nights, surprise lunches, road trips and cruises, and simply spending quality time together. She will be remembered always as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a devoted friend to many. Kathryn Davis was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, John Jr., and by her son, George L. Davis Jr. She is survived by her husband, George Davis, daughter, Virginia Phillips (Jeffery Phillips), grandchildren; Julia and Brent Phillips, sister, Joan Smallwood, brother, Martin Gavis, as well as extended family, church family and dear friends.
