Glenndale Marcus Defoe, age 92 of Dallas, formerly of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on May 24, 2014.
He was born in Enid, Oklahoma, on October 19, 1921, to Truman and Inez DeFoe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie C. DeFoe, four brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Feuerbacher DeFoe of Belt, MT and four children: Glenndale M. DeFoe, Jr. of Buckhannon, WV; Marsha Lee Pringle of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Carol A. Geggenheimer of Longmont, CO; and Steve B. DeFoe of Dallas, TX. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren: Aimee Marie DeFoe of Pittsburgh, PA., Jennifer Jessie DeFoe, also of Pittsburgh; Walter M. Pringle and Viki Lee Singleton of Charlotte, NC; Arthur Geggenheimer, of Longmont, CO; Melissa Lee DeFoe and Steve B. DeFoe, Jr. of Dallas, TX, and ten great grandchildren.
Glenndale DeFoe retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1963 from the U. S. Air Force. He was a member of the "Thunderbird "Division of the Oklahoma National Guard in the early years of WWII. After joining the Air Force, he served in China and Japan, in US air bases in Texas and Kansas. He flew extensively in the Far East, taking his C-47 "over the Hump" and providing air transport for the negotiations between the Nationalist and Communists forces in 1946-48. In the post-war years he continued to serve in the US Air Force, often flying the B-47 strategic bomber. During this time he also established a flight school in Wichita, Kansas, to train civilian pilots.
After recording thousands of flying hours in the Air Force, Colonel DeFoe worked for over 20 years for United Air Lines, primarily as a flight instructor. He trained hundreds of pilots, both US and international, at the United Flight Training Center in then Stapleton Field in Denver.
Mr. DeFoe will be laid to rest after military honors at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 13, 2014. After the military ceremony, a memorial service will be conducted by Chaplain Mark Melton.
