Obituary

Delora Ann (Keck) Cain passed away unexpectedly on December 25, 2024, at the age of 86.

Delora was born on December 22, 1938, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Trevis Sterling Keck and Ruth Virginia Ashford Keck. When she was young, the family moved to Pasadena, Texas where she later graduated from Deer Park High School. She graduated with a degree in Education and Speech Pathology from Texas Christian University in 1961. During her time at TCU, she was involved in sorority life as a Zeta Tau Alpha.

It was at Deer Park High School where Delora met Gerald Cain. They were Junior class favorites and eventually fell in love and married on June 30, 1961. During their 61 years of marriage, they raised two children, Christie and Bryce.

Delora was a lifelong educator. During her professional career, she taught speech pathology and elementary education. Her longest tenure was in Richardson Independent School District where she taught English as a Second Language. In February 1995 Delora was honored as Educator of the Month at RISD Academy.

Outside of work, Delora participated in book clubs, was a talented seamstress and avid quilter, and was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Richardson. She loved working in her yard, digging in the dirt and creating beautiful landscapes around the family home. But by far her greatest joy was spending time with her precious grandchildren.

After retiring from full-time work, she enjoyed spending time with family and traveling with friends.

Delora was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents; and son Bryce.

She is survived by her daughter Christie Petrie and husband Jim; granddaughter, Kelsey Petrie Bratcher and husband Austin, grandson Trey Petrie; daughter-in-law Heidi Cain; great-grandson Callum Coleman Bratcher and several cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held for Delora at Holly Grove Cemetery.
