Desiree Blackmon, a woman whose life was defined by quiet strength, boundless love, and an unwavering devotion to family, passed away surrounded by the people who mattered most to her. Born on July 10, 1954, Desiree spent her entire adult life in the sacred role of mother—not merely to her own four children, but to grandchildren and to many others who found in her a safe harbor, a steady hand, and a heart that never closed its doors.

She was the kind of mother people speak of when they say “one of the best anyone could ever hope to have.” Desiree did not treat motherhood as a season or a duty; she treated it as her life’s work. She raised her children with a blend of firm guidance and fierce tenderness, teaching them resilience, loyalty, and the quiet dignity of showing up for the people you love. Long after her own children were grown, she continued that work with the next generation, offering advice, meals, rides, late-night conversations, and the steady presence that only a mother could give. There were also others who simply needed a mother figure—who found themselves folded into her care without fanfare or condition. Desiree never kept score of whose child was whose. If you needed her, you were hers.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Jeanette Hryhorchuk, whose influence lived on in the way Desiree herself mothered, her father, Richard Day and by her husband, Wesley Blackmon. Together they built a family and a home filled with the ordinary, lasting moments that become a family’s history: shared meals, hard conversations, celebrations, and the daily work of keeping a household and a heart open.

Desiree is survived by her children—Jon Bajjali, Marcus Blackmon, Leah Williams, Miranda Blackmon, Madison Blackmon, Kobe Blackmon, & Taylor Blackmon —all of whom carry forward the lessons she spent a lifetime teaching. She also leaves behind brothers, Michael Williams, Robert Pope, & Timothy Hryhorchuk and grandchildren, Haley Flores, Kailynn Williams, & Jaxson Williams who knew her as both a source of comfort and a force of nature, as well as extended family and friends who were touched by her generosity of spirit. Those who loved her will remember the particular way she loved: fully, practically, and without reservation. She was the one who showed up when things fell apart, who could make a house feel like home simply by being in it.

Her legacy is not measured in public accomplishments or titles, but in the lives she shaped and the love she multiplied. In a world that often treats caregiving as invisible labor, Desiree made it visible through the sheer consistency of her presence. She poured herself into the people around her until the very end, and in doing so she left them richer, stronger, and more capable of loving others in turn.
