Obituary

Robert Marks "Bob" Dettman March 28, 1922 - November 13, 2016 R.M. "Bob" Dettman of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016. Bob Dettman was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, on March 28, 1922, to Edwin Albert and Olive Marks Dettman. After graduating from Appleton High School, he attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he met Laverne Froula, his future wife. His schooling was interrupted with the outbreak of World War II and his enlistment in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was trained as fighter pilot and later served as an advanced instructor, teaching hundreds of pilots with the Army Air Corps. It was during his time in service that he married Laverne Froula Dettman on July 3, 1943. Following his military service, he graduated from business school and law school at the University of Wisconsin. He moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1951, where he enjoyed a successful business career and raised his family. Bob Dettman is survived by his wife of 73 years, Laverne Marie Froula Dettman, and his three children and their spouses, Robert M. Dettman II and wife Barb of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, Mark Henry Dettman and wife Laquita of Midland, Texas, and Kimarie Dettman Short and husband Jim of Colleyville, Texas. He was also grandfather to Robin Dettman and Robert M. Dettman III and great grandfather to Leia, Beau, Arrow, and Keagan. Bob Dettman loved horses and enjoyed his extended family at White Rock Stables in Dallas, Texas, where he spent most every day for the past 30 years helping others to learn to ride and to enjoy the horsemanship that he loved so much. He will be missed by his family and his countless friends, but Bob knew Jesus and he is in Heaven with our Father and our Lord and Savior, where he is joyful and awaits all who knew and loved him.
