Obituary

Dora Elena Brady

July 23,1945-June 18,2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Dora Elena

Brady,78, passed away unexpectedly on June 18,2024 in Irving, TX.

Dora was first welcomed into the world by her loving

parents, Evaristo Jr. & Dora Herrera Martinez, and her brother,

Evaristo Martinez III on July 23, 1945 in San Ygnacio, TX. Dora's

family then briefly moved to Mission, Texas where her youngest

sister, Anna Maria Martinez was born. Eventually, Dora's family

would make their home in Abilene, Texas and were members of Saint

Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church.

While in Abilene, Texas, Dora attended public schools,

graduated from Abilene High School in 1964, and would go on to

earn her Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology from

McMurry College (now University) in 1969. After college

graduation, she worked at Hendrick Hospital as a medical

technologist.

She met Milton Ted Brady who was stationed at Dyess Air

Force Base and later married him on December 18, 1972. They had

two children, Mary Margaret in 1974 and Charles Evaristo in

1976. The family eventually moved to Irving, Texas in 1980. Dora

remained a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Luke's

Catholic Church.

While in DFW, her career choices initially led her to work

at reference laboratories and through several hospital systems

including Baylor. Her membership with the American Medical

Technologists Organization was maintained throughout much of her

life. After some time though, she was eventually outnumbered by

public school educators within her own family (her sister,

daughter and niece) and perhaps wanting to be able to engage in

sustained dialogue referencing her own experiences, she sought

a career change. In 2001, Dora earned her teaching

qualifications from Tarrant County College. She taught Bilingual

education at Gabe Allen Elementary in Dallas ISD and also

substituted at various schools in Irving ISD before her

retirement.

As her family reflects on the legacy that Dora has left

behind, we want to acknowledge how proud she was of her Mexican-

American heritage and upbringing which she shared with her

children. We acknowledge how much she consistently wished others

well on both sides of her family by sending birthday/special

occasion cards and care packages. We acknowledge how she did

not linger in the "storms" of her life, one of which was

courageously fighting 3 bouts of cancer- never weakening or

giving up.

Dora is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ted Brady of

Irving, TX. Son and daughter-in-law, Charles & Leanna Brady of

Arlington, TX and their children, Addison, Molly, Aiden and

Kaitlyn. Son-in law, Donnie McKean and his children Mia and

Christian. Sister, Anna Vedro and niece, Melissa Skains of

Arlington, TX. Nephew, John Vedro of Fort Worth, TX. All of

Salt Lake City, UT: Sister-in-law, Carol Brady. Brother-in-law,

Charles Russell Brady. Niece, Leslie Phillips and her husband

Tim.

A private visitation will be held on Monday, June 24th at

11AM with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please consider

a donation in her memory to an organization of your choosing or

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, a nonprofit whose

mission holds a special place in all of our hearts.

Our family remains steadfast in our faith that the gift of

God is eternal life. We believe that Dora's soul has joined with

the souls of her grandparents, her parents, her brother, and her

daughter. May they all continue to guide us on our earthly

journeys here. As Dora would say, "We are all just passing

through." Vaya con dios nuestro amor. Esperamos la reunion. Go

with God, our love. We await our reunion.

Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
