We celebrate the life of Dorothy Faye (Duffy) Montgomery, age 95, of Richardson, Texas, who died peacefully on January 3, 2025, with her three children at her bedside.
Duffy was born September 13, 1929, in Iowa Park, Wichita County, Texas to parents, Everett and Ruby Sewell. Everett was the long-time owner of Sewell Barber Shop in Iowa Park. She and her family were members of the First Baptist Church where Ruby taught children's Sunday school and Duffy sang in the choir for many years. She graduated from Iowa Park High School, then later attended Midwestern State University majoring in Home Economics. She married Leroy Montgomery of Lawton, OK in 1949.
The life of a football coach's wife which began at the High School level, and continued on through Junior College, University and Professional levels, led the family on many travels through the Midwest including stops in Lawton, OK, Lake City, CO, Albuquerque, NM, Dodge City, KS, Manhattan, KS, Winnipeg, Canada, Fayetteville, AR and the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex area. Duffy's crown jewel as a coach's wife came when her beloved Cameron Aggies won the 1961 Junior Rose Bowl Championship in Pasadena, a team of players with whom she corresponded for the remainder of her life. Duffy was regarded as a devoted wife, a proud and nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a cherished friend, listener and mentor to many.
During the 1970's, Dorothy Faye ever the interior decorator and antique aficionado, started her business "Duffy's Antiques" first located along highway 71 in Winslow, Arkansas, and later in downtown Plano, Texas and finally for a long run of 18 years on the town square in downtown McKinney, Texas until retiring in 2008. Duffy was a talented and enthusiastic dancer, had the voice of an angel and was known for her love of books, storytelling, sports expertise and famous homemade fudge that she happily shared with family and friends. Her great sense of humor and folksy sayings like "you be sweet" and "I love you best" will long be remembered by all in her life.
