Obituary

Robert (Bob) DeForrest Duerr, son of the late Edwin Louis Duerr and Leonore Helen Smith Duerr was born on March 12, 1932 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He had a brother, James Eugene Duerr, who passed in January of this year. As a child and throughout his life, he was especially close to his grandmother, Jeanette Schade Smith. Bob attended public schools in Brooklyn and Queens, New York and took business courses in Long Island, New York. As an infant, he was baptized in the Presbyterian church, later became a Lutheran, and in 2011 became a member of Stonebriar Community Church of Frisco, Texas. Bob served honorably in the United States Airforce during the Korean War. His lifetime career was in the commercial airline industry beginning with United Airlines and Frontier Airlines. As his career advanced, he held executive management positions with Texas International Airlines and Morse Associates. His expertise and passion was in the area of aircraft service equipment and, in this role, he was instrumental in the design and development of progressive aircraft equipment introduced in the early 1970's; notably the automated baggage loading system and the electric airport mobility cart. Bob was married for 59 years to the love of his life, the late Margaret Rose Gillert Duerr, of Cheltenham, Great Britain whom he met while serving during the Korean War. He is survived by his two daughters, Karen Leonore Duerr, (Noel Elizabeth Koerner) of San Antonio, Texas, and Susan Margaret Duerr Battarbee (Randall Lee Battarbee) of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Robert Dale Gutmann, (Candace Blythe Kaleilani Gutmann) of Cibolo, Texas, Sarah Christine Hannah (Mark Lee Hannah), of Frisco, Texas, Matthew Winston Battarbee of Boise, Idaho, and Sarah Danielle Leland (Dr. Jeremy David Leland) of Georgetown, Texas; and seven great grandchildren, Emma Grace Leland, Stratton Wolfgang Gutmann, Brayden Lee Hannah, Claire Christine Hannah, Jackson David Leland, Noelle Anneliese Gutmann, and baby Gutmann due in October. Bob is also survived by his sister in law Gloria Girani Duerr of West Babylon, New York and his nieces Robbin Duerr LaMattina, Linda Duerr Staiger, Caroline Gillert Agar and Bernadette Gillert Haynes and their families. Bob loved the Lord and his faith was steadfast. In 2012, he realized a lifelong dream to travel to Israel. He was baptized in the Sea of Galilee, floated in the Dead Sea and put his feet in the River Jordan. He said to many "if I had died in Israel, I have done it all!" Bob treasured his family and friends. He lived a full and meaningful life and supported many charities, missionaries and causes that aligned with his Christian beliefs. Bob felt blessed every day that God gave him.

A memorial service will be held at Stonebriar Community Church 4801 Legendary Drive, Frisco, TX 75034 in the Ministry Center on Thursday, March 28th at 2:00 p.m. Bob was very appreciative of his doctors and caregivers. Memorial donations can be made to:
