Obituary

John Flynn Ebey, at the age of 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 21, 2017. He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa and friend to all who knew him. A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, February 4th at First United Methodist Church, McKinney. John was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on September 21, 1948 to Clarence and Marion Ebey. They lived in Cottonport until he was 6 when they moved to Lake Jackson, TX. He graduated from Brazosport High School in 1967. He attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas for a year after graduation. In 1968, he began working for Dow Chemical, working as an operator in the magnesium plant. In the 80's, he was transferred to the computer division of Dow Chemical. He worked for Dow Chemical until 1993 when he began working for Process Computer Technology in Houston. He was able to repair large industrial computers without any documentation. When it became less expensive to replace the industrial computers than to repair them, he began working for Chuck E. Cheese as a technician to keep all the games running. In 2002, he began working for Lake Hardware where he worked until moving to McKinney in 2006. After the move, he worked for McKinney Tire and Appliance for two years. Then he worked for Ace Hardware until he suffered a heart attack in 2011, and due to health issues was forced to retire. John considered himself "a jack of all trades and a master of none." He truly enjoyed helping people solve everyday repair issues including plumbing, electrical, and automotive repair. In addition to helping people, he loved the out of doors and taking in the simple pleasures of nature. He loved his children and grandchildren and loved when they came to spend time with us! He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of McKinney and loved participating in the Celebration Sunday School Class. John was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marian Ebey, and his son, John Jr. He is survived by his wife, Janet; son and wife Shawn and Sarah Ebey; son and wife Richard and Anna Ebey; daughter and husband, Sharon and Aaron Zimmerman; step-son and wife Scott and Sheila Ross, step-son and wife Ryan and Laurel Ross; step-son and wife Chad and Crausy Ross; brother and wife Ron and Carol Ebey; sister and husband Laurie and Bryan Porter; step-Mom Ruth Ebey; step-brother Terry Shanks, step-sister Kelly Shanks and 13 grandchildren.
