Obituary

Elaine Marie Hamilton, 101, of Lewisville, Texas passed away on March 14, 2025, from congestive heart failure.

Elaine was born November 11, 1923, to Firmin and Emily Baye as the third child in a family of seven. As a teen she worked in Woolworth's in Port Arthur at the candy counter and upon graduation she went to California where she worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Company as an operator all during WWII. She was especially proud to have been called to serve as a telephone operator on April 25, 1945, in San Francisco, where 46 nations met to discuss the creation of the United Nations.

During the war she met Carl Hamilton, a Marine Master Technical Sargent in El Centro, California at a skating rink. She always claimed he ran into her on purpose. Carl was a veteran of Pearl Harbor and Okinawa. After the war Carl went to work for Pacific Bell as a lineman. They were married on February 7, 1946, in Yuma, Arizona and had one son, Mart. In 1951 they moved back to Dallas, Texas and both went to work for Southwestern Bell.

They lived in the Casa View area of Dallas and Elaine was very active in several local garden clubs and showed several years at the State Fair. Elaine also worked for McShan Florist, Sun Oil Company and the University of Texas at Dallas. In 1973 Carl was transferred to Houston as a Senior Supervisor and they lived there until he retired in 1976 when they moved to Hideaway Lakes outside of Tyler. They participated in many activities including the Shriner Golf Team and Eastern Star. Elaine maintained beautiful gardens and landscape.

After Carl died in 1989 Elaine continued to live in Hideaway serving as president of the Ladies 9 Hole Golf Association and participated in card clubs, garden clubs, book clubs and the ladies bowling league where she had a high game of 266. In 2006 Elaine moved to Plano to be near her sisters-in-law and she continued to participate in card clubs and other activities with all her close friends at Evergreen at Plano during her residence there.

In 2020 Elaine had several health issues and after being released from rehab came to live with her son, Mart and his wife Barbara in Lewisville. She enjoyed nightly card games and the visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The past year of her life she was under the excellent care of Enhabit Hospice, who administered comfort and love to her at the very end of her life.

Elaine is survived by her son Mart Hamilton and wife Barbara of Lewisville, Grandson Brian Hamilton and wife Shayne of North Richland Hills, Granddaughter Carrie Williams and husband Keith of McKinney, Granddaughter Amanda Williams and husband Jeff, Great Granddaughters Carrie Williams, Rylee Hamilton, Lily Williams, Trinity Williams and Alice Williams as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
