Erna J. Rose, aged 78, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Born on April 24, 1945, to Lois and Ernest Diercks. Her father passed shortly before her birth, while serving our country in WWII, and she was later adopted by her stepfather, William Avery. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, James, her son, Michael, and her grandson, Aiden. She is survived by her 3 younger siblings, Dale, Kevin and Todd, and preceded by her brother, Brent, and sister, Joan.
Erna grew up in Red Wing, Minnesota, completed beauty school after high school, and married James on April 8, 1967, at St John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing, Minnesota. She and James relocated to north Texas in 1970, where she started her own family. Erna was a dedicated member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Dallas, where she raised her children, and later, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Flower Mound, where she found solace and a sense of community through her faith. Her greatest goal was to become a mother. She is survived by her daughter, Lori, and her son, David. She was blessed to be called "Granny", and her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Jesse, Hailey, Mia, Logan, and Ila, as well as her great-grandsons, Karsen and Zayden, who brought immense joy to her life.
Erna generously dedicated her time to her church community in countless ways, including teaching Sunday school for 20 years. She had been an integral part of the Calvary Lutheran family for many years, finding comfort, joy, and support in their fellowship. Erna also found fulfillment in being a hairstylist for her friends, neighbors, and church family. Her kitchen and back patio were often transformed into a 'beauty shop' on the weekend, filled with gossip, giggles, and free perms and haircuts. Her aspiration to become a mother was fulfilled, and her greatest happiness came from spending quality moments with her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service, dedicated to celebrating Ernas life, will be hosted at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Flower Mound on Saturday, August 26 for visitation at 9:30 am, and service at 10:30 am. Memorials can be directed to her church- Prince of Peace Lutheran in Flower Mound or Calvary Lutheran in Dallas. Erna's desire for those that she leaves behind her is to have comfort knowing that she died with her faith and has joined her Lord in eternal glory and encourage them to, likewise, place their faith and trust into the eternal, protecting arms of God. As we reflect on her example of unwavering faith, her warmth, her love, and the gentle impact she had on all who were fortunate enough to know her, may we find solace in the enduring memories that she will forever reside within our hearts.
