It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Evelyn Jane Ashley, affectionately known as Mimi or Mom, but as Janie to most, on March 22, 2023. Janie was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and servant of the Lord and her community, who touched the lives of all who knew her.
Born on February 17, 1935, Janie grew up in Oak Cliff and met the love of her life, Scottie, in elementary school. They married on August 7, 1954, and spent 66 wonderful years together until he passed in 2020. Janie was a devoted wife who stood by her husband throughout their lives, and their marriage is a shining example of true love and commitment.
Janies faith was an integral part of her life. Her unwavering belief in God was an inspiration to those around her, and she touched the lives of many through her service to others. She lived her life according to the teachings of her Lord and Savior, and her love for others was evident in all that she did. She was a selfless and generous person who always put others before herself, including animals. Janie loved dogs, horses, painting, and gardening. She kept many plants alive for more than 20 years, and passed a lot of her knowledge and experiences on to her family and friends.

Janies love and devotion extended to her family and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She was passionate about keeping family members connected, and hosted many cousin meetups and family reunions. She is survived by four daughters: Amy, Alice and her husband Mark, Sally and her husband Charles, and Sara and her husband Quin. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Blake, Kennedy, Rylie, and Cash. She is preceded in death by her husband, Scottie Hays Ashley, daughter, Sheri Lin Ashley, and granddaughter, Raegan Ariel Davis.
A private memorial service for Janies life will be held on April 5, 2023, at the DFW National Cemetery, with a celebration for all following at First Baptist Church of Dallas in the atrium at the Criswell Center at noon. The family has asked for flowers and donations in Janies honor. Flowers or plants should be sent to DFW National Cemetery or First Baptist Church of Dallas- Criswell Center, and donations should be sent to the North Texas Food Bank in Janie's name (checks or online at ntfb.org/donate).
