Floyce Rae
Vermillion
May 29, 1932 — Mar 8, 2026
Floyce Rae Brown Vermillion, age 93, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, surrounded by three of her four beloved grandchildren. Born on May 29, 1932, in Big Spring, Texas, Floyce was the youngest of four children born to Raymer and Jessie Brown. She grew up alongside her siblings, La Homa, Glen, and Dorothy, in a close-knit family that helped shape the strong values she carried throughout her life.
Floyce graduated from high school before moving to Denton to attend North Texas State College. After earning her degree, she began what would become a lifelong career in education. Her leadership, discipline, and care left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.
Soon after beginning her career, Floyce met the love of her life, Robert Earl Vermillion. The two were married on May 28, 1955, beginning a partnership that would span decades of love, faith, and family. Together, they raised two children, Kelly Beth Vermillion and Steven Mark Vermillion.
Robert and Floyce eventually settled in Dallas, Texas, where they became devoted members of Northridge Presbyterian Church. Their faith and community were important parts of their lives, and Floyce was known for her warmth, loyalty, and willingness to serve others.
Floyce was a proud grandmother to Stefanie Vermillion Hoover, Jordan Vermillion Smith, Jacob Vermillion, and Callie Vermillion Tubby. In time, she joyfully earned the title of "great-grandmother," a role she wore as a badge of honor. Her great-grandchildren include Landry Cate Hoover, Madelyn Rae Hoover, and Cleo Marie Smith, each of whom brought her immense pride and happiness.
Family was the center of Floyce's world. She instilled in everyone she met a deep appreciation for the importance of family and connection. Those who knew her often described one defining quality: she showed up. Floyce showed up during joyful celebrations and during life's hardest moments. She showed up when encouragement was needed, when comfort was required, and when someone simply needed to know they were not alone. Her steady presence was a gift to many.
Floyce was preceded in death by her parents, Raymer and Jessie Brown; her siblings La Homa and Glen; her beloved husband, Robert Earl Vermillion; and her children, Kelly Beth Vermillion and Steven Mark Vermillion. She is survived by her sister Dorothy, along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry forward her legacy of love and devotion.
Though her family grieves her loss, they find comfort imagining the joyful reunion that surely took place as she was welcomed by those who went before her.
Floyce's life was one of service, strength, faith, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched simply by showing up.
We will celebrate Floyce's life and legacy on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 1:00 with a reception to follow. The service will be held at Northridge Presbyterian Church – 6920 Bob O Link Dr. Dallas, TX 75214
