JAN FRANKLIN

August 29, 1934 February 9, 2014 Janet Ethel (Grover) Franklin, 79, passed away on February 9, 2014 in McKinney, Texas. Janet (Grover) Franklin was born in Gloversville, New York on August 29, 1934 to Geraldine C. and Alwyn E. Bauder. She graduated from Johnstown High School in 1952. She attended Potsdam State University in New York where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and was an active member of the Ago Sorority. In 1956 Jan married Philip Grover and relocated to Shrewsbury, Massachusetts where she began her career as a school teacher and started her family with the adoption of two daughters. While living in Massachusetts she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Eastern Star. In 1976 Jan and the children moved to Venice, Florida a place she always considered her adopted home. Jan had a successful career in advertising at WAMR radio in Venice and WEEJ radio in Port Charlotte. She continued onto The Venice Gondolier Sun where she wrote a weekly column. To Jan, her proudest accomplishment was her years as Executive Director of the American Cancer Society, where she was truly able to help those in need with her warmth and natural ability to comfort those in difficult times. After retiring, Jan moved to McKinney, Texas and married James Franklin, Sr. in 2003 and became an active member of the Stonebridge United Methodist Church. Jan had an immense capacity to love and care for anyone she met. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a deeply spiritual, selfless woman who was always available for those in need. She will be greatly missed.
