On the morning of October 13, 2020, Anna Margarete Friesen died at the age of 94. Born in Dilkrath in the Rhineprovinz of Germany on August 6, 1926, Anna emigrated to El Paso, TX in the 1950s and moved to Plano, Texas in the 1990s. For 20 years, Anna volunteered at Haggard Library as a book mender, a service she undertook with care and love. About her work as a mender, she told a local reporter, "It makes me feel I am not too old to help." As a skilled knitter, crotcheer, and seamstress, she joyfully shared her talents with others by giving blankets, hats, and scarves to loved ones and local hospitals. Born and raised on a farm, Anna cultivated a love of growing things throughout her long life. More than the things she did, she will be remembered for the person she was-a helper, a dear friend, and a beloved grandmother. Anna is preceded in death by her husband Arnold Friesen, and she is survived by her grandson Erik Aleksandr Friesen and his spouse Leila McNeill; several family members living in Germany; and her son Bo Friesen and granddaughter Anna Ariel. Services will be held in her memory once it is safe to gather again. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
