Obituary

Betty Jo Perry Gardner was born on April 27, 1925, the youngest child of Lemuel and Gladys Clement. She was raised in San Angelo, TX where she graduated from Lakeview High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Joe Allen Perry, in 1944. They moved to Waco, TX in 1958 with his job as a state trooper with the Department of Public Safety where they joined Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and raised their three daughters. Betty was a homemaker and seamstress until after Joe's death in 1970, when she entered the work force as a secretary at her church and later at Central Texas Iron works. Betty married Gordon Gardner in 1983 and they spent many wonderful years together traveling the country in their motor home. She was a faithful member of the Margaret Mixson Sunday School class at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. The many dated notes and names in her Bible bear witness to the importance of her faith and her participation in worship of her savior, Jesus Christ. After Gordon's death in 2002 and Betty's health began to decline, she moved to Carrollton to live near her youngest daughter. She spent 5 happy years at Lakeview at Josey Ranch, and then 3 peaceful years at Sonoma House Assisted Living. The family is very grateful for the love and care provided by the staff at Sonoma House in Carrollton. Despite losing two husbands and her oldest daughter, Betsy, to cancer, Betty's strong faith never wavered, and her sweet spirit and beautiful smile were a testimony and blessing to all who knew her. Betty is survived by daughters, Brenda Bird and husband, David, of Carrollton, TX, Mary Beth Carpenter and husband, Jimmy, of Nacogdoches, TX, and a beloved son-in-law, Ernie Armstrong and wife Becky, in Snyder, TX. She was also blessed with a step daughter, Carolyn Pennington and her husband Bob, as well as 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grand children. Betty honored the Lord with her life and entered the presence of Jesus on April, 29, 2018.
