Gary Kevin
Mitchell
May 11, 1961 — Feb 18, 2025
Gary Kevin Mitchell was born on May 11, 1961, in Houston, Texas. After a life filled with love, adventure, and cherished moments, Gary passed away on February 18, 2025, at the age of 63 in Carrollton, Texas.
Gary's journey began in Houston, where he was raised by his loving parents, Betty R. Mitchell and Bedford M. Mitchell, alongside his sister, Kelly. Gary attended Westbury High School until the family moved to Dallas in 1978. He then attended Richardson High School, where he graduated in 1980. Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, he attended Texas Tech University and the University of Oklahoma, eventually settling in Lawton, Oklahoma, in 1983 to be near family.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, Gary found peace and joy in nature. He loved camping, golfing, snow skiing, fishing, and boating, always eager to explore the great outdoors. His remarkable ability to spot wildlife during hikes and drives demonstrated his deep appreciation for the beauty surrounding us. Gary's talent for billiards blossomed at a young age by playing on the family pool table. He honed his skills later in life and enjoyed playing pool competitively. He created lasting friendships through weekly APA competitions with his team, Spiny Dogfish.
Gary was a loyal son and brother and was always ready to support his family and friends. He held dear the moments spent with his loved ones, never missed a family gathering, and treasured every shared laugh and memory. His spirit of generosity and compassion will forever be remembered.
He is survived by his mother, Betty R. Mitchell, of Dallas, Texas; his father, Bedford M. Mitchell, and wife, Jenny Mitchell, of Kerrville, Texas; his sister, Kelly D. Mitchell, and brother-in-law, Sean K. Garman, of Dallas, Texas; and his aunt, Joy Doss, of Austin, Texas.
As we celebrate Gary's life, we invite you to join us in honoring his memory by sharing a message or memory. The date for his memorial service is yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary's name to Operation Kindness, reflecting his love for animals.
In the words of Romans 8:38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." May this be a reminder of the love and light that Gary brought into our lives, a love that will forever endure.
