Obituary

Gerald L. Paige 1931-2024 Gerald "Jerry" L. Paige, age 92, a stalwart of Famers Branch, TX, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at his home surrounded by the love and warmth of his daughter. He was born at home on June 17, 1931, in Nora Township in Jo Daviess County, IL, the son of Roy and Ruby (Doubler) Paige. Jerrys roots were as deeply embedded in the soil as the family farm he sprang from. He grew up working on the family farm and graduated from Warren High School in 1949. In 1951, he joined the United States Air Force, serving as a aircraft hydraulic systems specialist at Brady Airfield in southern Japan during the Korean War in support of combat cargo operations. In 1955, he was honorably discharged. Jerry was united in marriage to Bettie Spore on June 1, 1957, at the United Methodist Church in Warren, IL. Their love story, was filled with shared dreams, challenges overcome, and an ever-growing family tree until Betties passing in 2017, In 1958 he graduated from DeVry Technical Institute with a degree in electronics. After graduation his never-ending technical curiosity led to a move from life on the farm to a job at UNIVAC as a field engineer during the birth of the "Computer Age". During this time, he and his family relocated several times throughout the United States on work assignment. In 1963, he joined the fledgling Recognition Equipment Inc. where he served as a cornerstone of their field engineering division. In 1968 the family would eventually settle in the Farmers Branch, TX where Jerry and Bettie would watch their family grow and spend the remainder of their lives together. Jerrys legacy at REI, where he was affectionately known as "Dad," continued until his retirement in 1994, marking a career defined by innovation, mentorship, and an insatiable quest for knowledge. Retirement for Jerry was anything but idle. A familiar figure on his bike around town, he was the neighborhoods go-to fixer, a wizard who could breathe life into the most stubborn of broken gadgets, all while maintaining a keen interest in technical evolution. Yet, it was his family that brought him the greatest joy. Jerrys legacy is not just in the machines he built but, in the memories, crafted with his children and grandchildren, each moment a treasure. Jerry leaves behind a tapestry of lives touched, including his daughters, Victoria (Tony) Towler and Kimberly Paige; his sons, Steven, Bryan, and Dennis (Melanie) Paige; his grandchildren, Brandon (Christina), Lauren (Chase) Barckley, Adeline, Jackson, Samantha, and Cooper; and his great-granddaughter, Savannah. His legacy is also cherished by his sisters-in-law, Crystal Paige and Barbara (Bob) Hase, alongside many nieces and nephews. Jerry reunites in eternity with his beloved wife, Bettie; his brother, Gene; and his parents. The memorial and interment service will be held on April 26, 2024 at 3:00pm until 3:30pm at DFW National Cemetery (2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211). A repast will be held after the funeral at 3372 Pebble Beach, Farmers Branch, TX starting at 6pm. Jerry would often end his correspondence with "Take it easy" signed "-Old Farmer," Hope you are taking it easy "Dad", until we meet again.
