Obituary

John Glenn was an American Senator, Engineer, Astronaut, and history making icon. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Glenn enlisted for flight training in the U.S. Army Corps. He would see combat in WWII and Korea, serving in 149 missions and earning numerous awards. In the late 50s, NASA began recruiting Military pilots of certain aptitudes and specifications for their upcoming missions. Glenn was among a prestigious few considered and selected, and he would go on to be the first man to orbit the earth on the Mercury-Atlas 6 Mission, aboard the Friendship 7 spacecraft on February 20th, 1962. John Glenn died in his home state of Ohio on December 8th, 2016 at the age of 95 after a week in the hospital. His contribution to history and his service to our country will be remembered and honored for years to come.
