Obituary

Herbert Marion (Bert) Gorrod went to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord, Savior and Friend, on September 14, 2020. Bert was born on December 1, 1929, in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Marian Mortena (Hallam) and Herbert Gilbert Gorrod. Bert lived much of his life in Texas, especially the Ft. Worth-Dallas area. After graduating from Arlington Heights High School, he attended Texas A&M where he received a degree in Geological Engineering, as well as commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. He served in the Army Security Agency during the Korean conflict. Exploring for oil and/or gas deposits occupies much of his professional life with Humble Oil & Refining Company (later Exxon) for 25 years. An additional 10 years were spent working for smaller companies, namely Hunt Energy, Adams Exploration, etc. Finally, he spent 11 years working for the Environmental Protection Agency. Bert accepted Christ as his Savior in February 1963 through a home Bible Study and participating in Bible Memory Association. Through time, he found that one of his spiritual gifts was teaching God's Word which led to a 3-year period as Interim Missions Minister at Northwest Bible Church in Dallas. Bert's teaching gift in home Bible Studies led to the establishment of Conroe Bible Church and indirectly to Midland Bible Church. Internationally, he ministered to and taught untrained laymen/women and pastors in Uzbekistan, Spain, Indonesia, Russia, Siberia, and Egypt. In addition, Bert was an elder for 35-years. Bert's survivors include his wife, Barbara, a wonderful life's partner of 68 years, plus children - Mark and wife Theresa of Longview, Barry and wife Kristi of Dallas, and Laurie Tikhonova of Tacoma, Washington. There are two grandchildren, David and Piper and 2 great grandchildren. He also has a sister, Dolly Webb of Spokane, Washington. A memorial service will be held on September 18, 2020 at 2:00pm.
