Born to Robert B. and Algie Shedd Halford in El Dorado, Arkansas. He attended University of Mississippi (Midshipman) and in addition to his Navy Service, he served in the USAF Master Planning Section of the Air Proving Ground at Eglin AFB. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, School of Architecture in 1960.
He practiced architecture in Dallas for many years both as President of HSJ Architects and as principal of The Oglesby Group. Two of his favorites, among many award winning projects, were the adaptive reuse of the Sanger Bros. bldg. downtown into the original El Centro campus and the original campus of Richland College. He further left a mark on the Dallas architectural community through mentoring young design professionals throughout his career and by serving on various local and national professional committees. He treasured his friendship with Paul Tsotsos, Chicago, and Newton Fallis, Fort Worth, among many others.
He was much loved and will be greatly missed by his family: daughter, Lauren Nitschke and husband Gary, Waurika, Ok; grandchildren, Bradley Nitschke, Dallas; Amanda Northcutt and husband Travis and great grandson, Kyle Northcutt, Bryan; and his loving devoted wife of 40 years, Helen.
Family thanks all his caregivers, especially Chris Burcalow and the Physical Therapy Dept. at CC Young.
Should anyone wish to remember him with a contribution, family would be grateful for your consideration of Homes for Our Troops (htofusa.org) or Returning Heroes Home, POB 202194, Dallas, TX 75230, or a charity of choice.
