Charles Don "Chuck" Hamilton, age 81, of Plano, Texas (formerly of Amarillo and Phillips, Texas) was called home by The Lord on September 18, 2016, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. He was a member of the Class of 1953 of Phillips High School. He was an accomplished international businessman who ran businesses in the USA and Europe. He was God's faithful servant for his entire life, an accomplished golfer, thinker, friend and beloved family patriarch. We called him "Charles," "Pop" or "Popsy." Pop was born during the dust-bowl depression days of the Texas Panhandle. He was the youngest and only boy in a family of 3 kids. He grew up in the oil-company town of Phillips, Texas, in a house later moved on a truck to the red-dirt hills between the Canadian River and old Indian lands north of Amarillo, where he graduated from high school. His house was so small he had to sleep on the enclosed patio of his parent's house, where his bed was wheeled out of the way every morning so the room could be used as the family dining room. While in high school, he heard a barber-shop quartet, which affected him deeply. He enlisted 3 buddies and started his own quartet, called "The Gruesome Groaners," who were eventually invited to Fort Worth to sing on the Ted Mack radio program. Along the way, at age 16, he saw a beautiful dancer at a talent show at nearby Borger High School named Marion Carole Kimball, and he made sure to meet her. They remained together the rest of their lives. Pop graduated from University of North Texas (formerly NTSU) with a Biology Degree after 2 years in the Army. He wanted to be a dentist, but God had other plans for him. He worked nights at Texas Instruments in his last 2 years of college to support his growing family. He started his professional career with IBM in West Texas, first Midland then Lubbock and Amarillo. Eventually he and his family moved to Dallas where he also became involved in commercial real estate and the telecommunications business. Eventually he became a Senior VP of Honeywell, and then left Honeywell and Dallas to London, England, to run the European operations of a company based in Incline Village, NV (Lake Tahoe). After several years running the European operations from London, he moved to Lake Tahoe to become CEO of the entire company worldwide, and took the company public. After retiring from that company, he returned to Dallas and became a valued consultant to businesses around the world. Throughout his life Pop was a leader, forward-thinker, and source of wisdom for many people. If you knew Pop, you loved him; and if he knew you, he loved you. He was slow to anger, knowledgeable about virtually every subject, and cared about people deeply and sincerely. He loved to share ideas with others, especially relating to his faith, and always had ideas which were well-informed and useful to others. For a West Texas boy who didn't even have his own bedroom, very little help, a head start in life or road map, he achieved amazing things through his own ingenuity, character and drive. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marion Carole Hamilton nee Kimball; his son Chuck and his fianc Pam Payne of Flower Mound, TX; son Richard and his partner Debbie Close of London, England; his daughter Anne Finkel and her husband Mike Finkel of Carrollton, TX; and his grandchildren Ilyssa Kimball Hamilton, Chase Hamilton, Madelyn Hamilton, and Max Finkel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Hamilton and Dora Berline Hamilton (of Phillips, TX), and his sisters Charlene Talley and Jenny Johnston (both of Phillips, TX). There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, September 23, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Prestonwood Baptist Church Chapel, 6801 W. Park Blvd, Plano, TX, (972) 820-5000.
