Obituary

Helen Clois Masten died on May 16, 2025, in her sleep at the age of 94 in Plano, TX. She was born in Valley Mills, Indiana on December 21, 1930. Her faith sustained her until her death.

She is survived by her son, Keith Masten of Frisco (Deborah); daughter, Theresa Howard of Cincinnati (Rick); 3 grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, and Erica Howard (Justin So); and 2 great-grandchildren, Julius and Aryanna Howard; 2 sisters-in-law, Doris Carlton, and Carol Vanlandingham; 1 brother-in law, Joe Masten (Ruth), along with many nieces and nephews.

Helen was a devoted and loving wife, a proud and caring Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.

Her husband, John, preceded her in death (January 2017) but while he was alive Helen and John were true partners, best friends and constant companions who shared the same passions for family, traveling and the outdoors.

John and Helen traveled to Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Prague, and Budapest. They went to the Holy Land in 2016 following in the footsteps of Jesus. They also enjoyed hiking and have visited most of the U.S. National Parks.

After graduating from Purdue with a B.S. in Home Economics and Education, she taught home economics in Louisville, Ky. before John's promotion at the Farm Credit Administration led them to Washington, D.C. While in Louisville, Helen completed her master's in education with hours above her master's in counseling which led her to become a resource counselor in Mongomery, Maryland.

Early in their marriage, they farmed together with Grandma watching Keith and Theresa while Helen drove a tractor and baled hay. They farmed together for approximately 5-years before John's back wouldn't allow him to continue. They continued to own the farm in Indiana and had a crop share agreement with John's brother Ronny so the land continued to produce mostly corn and soybeans.

Helen, ever faithful, continued to attend the Traditional Sunday Service at St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Plano, TX.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew Methodist Church, 5801 W. Plano Pkwy, Plano TX on Preston Road on June 12th at 11:00 in the Hasley Chapel. The memorial service will be "streamed live" from St. Andrew's website https://standrewmethodist.org/.
