Obituary

Henry "Hank" Costa of Plano, Texas passed away peacefully at the age of 88 at his home on October 7, 2023 with his loving wife Louise by his side. Born October 5, 1935 in Bridgewater, Massachusetts to Manuel and Anna Costa, Hank was best known as a Miami Dolphin and Dallas Cowboys fan, an avid fisherman and longtime member of the American Legion Post 321 in Plano. Hank was happily married to Louise Costa - his partner in life for 24 years. Drafted in 1954 to the United States Army during the Korean War, he served honorably as a Specialist First Class. After serving, Hank moved to Florida and began his career as a master craftsman and homebuilder under the tutelage of his brother George Costa. Over the years, Hank was well-known for the number of multi-million dollar homes and high-end restaurants that he built, and was involved in the massive reconstruction efforts after Hurricane Andrew hit south Florida in the early 90s. After that, he relocated to Texas and was involved in the redevelopment of a number of historic downtown Galveston projects. Hank was known to his friends as a happy-go-lucky type that always had a smile on his face and ready to lend a hand when needed. In his later years, he spent much of his time in "his favorite spot" at the American Legion - participating in fundraisers, chili-cook offs, fish fries and football parties. Hank was predeceased by his parents Manuel and Anna Costa, sister Louise Chiappini, brothers George, Donald, and Ronald Costa. He is survived by his wife Louise Costa, his daughter Sally Costa Newland, his stepdaughters Cathy Hazzlerigg, Debbie Anderson, Cindy Alspaw, Celeste Sides, Dena Baker, Gretchen Price, Jessica Gaspar and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Party for Hank will be held Saturday, October 28 from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. at the American Legion Post 321 located at 1236 J Avenue, Plano Texas - 75074. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Legion Post 321 Boys State Fund. A donation box will be available at the Celebration Event.
