Obituary

Hill, Madelyn Eileen Born on September 28, 1940 in Mount Vernon, South Dakota. On the morning of January 9, 2014, she gracefully passed away in her Garland home surrounded in love and peace by her sons, Johnny, Mitch, and Mark; granddaughters, Shayna and Minda; and daughter-in-law, Tracey. Madelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Mabbott Eastman and Emma Lula Erickson, and her husband, Wellington "John" Edwin Hill, from Sisseton, South Dakota. Madelyn attended South Dakota University for one year to study music. In 1959, she married John and moved to Dallas, Texas. She owned Razors Edge in Town East Mall for 18 years. At 48, she returned to school at the TWU Parkland Campus to acquire her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She worked 21 years for Baylor Hospital in Garland, and retired at 72. She enjoyed family, friends, books, cats, music, film, public television and radio, travel, and a variety of cuisines. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Womens Evening Alliance, Texas Freedom Network, Planned Parenthood, ACLU, or NCSE. Madelyns celebration of life will be at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas on Fri. Jan. 17 at 4pm. "Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day.
