Hung Yan
Leung
May 3, 1931 — Aug 4, 2024
Hung Yan Leung, 93, of Plano, TX, passed peacefully at his home on August 4, 2024.
He was born in Chun Jack Village, Shington Heung, Yan Ping District in the Guangdong Province of China in 1931. As a young man of only thirteen, he left his village for Hong Kong in search of a better living. He finally met his beloved wife, Mo, in Hong Kong in 1962. They married on November 27, 1966. After having two sons, they emigrated to the United States. Settling in Florida (after discovering the New York winters were too cold), they had their daughter.
Hung learned to cook and worked at several local Chinese restaurants in Orlando. One of his early career highlights was doing a cooking demonstration at the local Burdines Department store. He proudly held onto the token Burdines apron from that day. In August 1983, he and his wife opened Golden Palace Chinese Restaurant. The local community embraced the new restaurant and the regular customers enjoyed getting to know Hung and Mo. Sometimes, it seemed people came in to see them, maybe even more so than for the food. The family shared many memories and meals there, with each working in various capacities throughout the 8-year run. In 1991, Hung and Mo decided to sell the restaurant and retire (a life of leisure and relaxation!).
In 2000, they decided to move to Plano, Texas, to be closer to their sons and grandchildren. They continued to be active in their retirement life – going on long walks, spending time with family and traveling. Hung was often considered "spry" for his age. Hung will always be remembered for his winning smile, kindness and accepting heart. We will miss him dearly.
Hung was preceded in death by his mother, father and siblings. He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Mo Leung; children, Chun (Leanne) Leung, Wai (Anh) Leung and Lily (Mike) Fee; and four grandchildren – Austin, Nicholas, David and Kai.
