John Glen Hungerford was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on August 17th, 1949 to Neil Lovenicia Hungerford and Lucy Edwards Hungerford. He left us far too soon after a courageous 9 month fight against glioblastoma. John died in Dallas, Texas on May 2nd, 2021 with his soulmate Jean by his side, after visits from a steady stream of family and friends all impacted by his steadfast grace and charm. His family remains grateful for the science that produced vaccinations and allowed him to be hugged and celebrated during the last months of his life. John attended McNeese State University, where he majored in horticulture. This led to a storied career in golf, where he started mowing greens at Mallard Cove in Lake Charles, and ended as CEO of Heritage Golf Group. He also built Bear Creek Golf Course and Stonebridge Ranch, with a variety of achievements in between. He touched many lives in his career and he was always grateful for the ways golf allowed him to provide for his family. While John was incredibly successful in his career, it was his family that was his pride and joy. John had two daughters, Holly and Jennifer, and remained their biggest cheerleader up until the very end of his life. Liam and Landon will tell you his abilities as a Paw Paw were unparalleled and his attendance at every school function and sporting event was the stuff of legends. John leaves behind family members who really do not know how to do life without him, only that they must because he wanted them to live his legacy. John Glen and his wife Jean Marie were an example of love and devotion to all who witnessed their partnership. Giving and getting, loving and learning, they navigated life together in a way helped all of us learn how to treat one another better. John, Paw Paw, Pops, Uncle, Big Dog, Brother was a reader, and he was always learning-unafraid to open his mind and change his opinion. He was a fan of scotch or a good glass of wine, country music, his family and friends, and we'd be remiss not to mention he could tear up a dance floor. His impact is hard to explain and measure, but it's clear to all who knew him that he left the world a better place than he found it. We were lucky to love him and to be loved by him.
