Jackson, Curtis Kean (Curt)Curtis Kean Jackson was born on November 19, 1952 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and passed away on December 8, 2014 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend.After graduating from Hillcrest High School in Dallas, he attended East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas and received a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Foreign Languages and a master's degree in Educational Technology with a minor in Counseling. He began his career at the Windham School District of the Texas Department of Corrections in Huntsville, Texas. Many of the inmates that came in contact with Curt after they had been released shared that Curt had been a positive influence on their lives. It was during this time in his life that he met his future wife, Devana Tubaugh, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church where Curt had been a very active member of the parish. They were married on November 2, 1985 and relocated to Dallas, Texas in 1987, where they joined and became active members St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. Curt held many positions at the church (Sr. Warden, Jr. Warden, Treasurer, Vestry member, Lay Eucharistic Minister, Altar Guild member, Healing Order of St. Luke, Men's Group, St. Christopher's Montessori School Board Member and caretaker). He was always willing to do what needed to be done. After working for Page Drug, Curt became a staff member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church in 1990. He left the church in 2012 after 22 years when he had to file for disability due to being diagnosed with CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy), a degenerative neurological disorder. Curt was a Renaissance man. He was a voracious reader, writer, cook, painter, he spoke 4 languages and he could sew if he needed to create something. He always wanted to learn new things and to challenge himself. He also loved to travel and spoke often of his trips to Alaska, Great Britain, and to the New Orleans World Fair. But his favorite activity, besides loving and caring for his family, was to serve his Lord in whatever capacity he was needed. Curt had a servant's heart. Curtis was proceeded in death by mother, Mary Anne Kean Jackson, his grandmother, Dannie Margaret Kean, father, William Pleasant Jackson, father-in-law, Ray Tubaugh and sister-in-law, Dixie Kae Tubaugh Ellison. He is survived by his wife, Devana Vae Tubaugh Jackson, son, Daniel Ray Jackson, brother, Tom Jackson and his wife Suzanne Gamboa, mother-in-law, Lorene Tubaugh, sister-in-laws Donna Pfannebecker and Drenda Tubaugh, brother-in-law, Jim Ellison and brother-in-law Darrin Tubaugh and his wife Vickie. Curt was also the loving uncle of a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, some who called him "Uncle Durt" when they were young. He is also survived by our two loving Pomeranians, Tabitha and Tolie, who were his constant companions during his days at home. The Celebration of Life for Curtis Jackson will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church located at 7900 Lovers Lane, Dallas TX 75225 (located at the southwest corner of Lovers Lane and North Central Expressway). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church or to St. Christopher's Montessori School. The world has lost a loving, kind, gentle, intelligent, sweet, helpful, faithful, loyal and compassionate man. We are better people for having been a part of his world.
