James “Jim” Davis
Miller
Apr 14, 1940 — Apr 8, 2023
James "Jim" Davis Miller, 82, of Dallas, Texas joined our Lord on Saturday, April 8, 2023, surrounded by his wife Barbara, brother Ben, son Brant and grandchildren. We have peace in knowing that he joined his beloved daughter, Kristina, along with his parents, brother John and other loved ones who went before him.
Jim was born on April 14, 1940, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the middle son to Margaret Cheney and John Evans Miller. They moved to Texas in 1946 where he went on to graduate from Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1958. He served in the Marine Reserves for 2 years. He attended the University of Texas and majored in Engineering Route to Business and Chemical Engineering. This is where he met the greatest love of his life, Barbara, and married her in 1962. They moved to Bay City where Jim became a father, to Kristina, in 1967. They lived in Houston, New York, Dallas; where his second child, Brant, was born in 1970, then onto Ohio before they moved back to Dallas in 1978. Jim worked with his father at White Rock Engineering, where he used a machine invented by his father known as, "The Miller Machine". He worked hard to build a strong company that would become a family business continued by his son. He spent many years working side by side with his family. Jim was a brilliant man who believed in continuing to learn and explore. He traveled all over the world for business and pleasure. He would either have Barbara or Brant at his side for most of his travels and at times, the whole family. Cabo San Lucas was a favorite place to visit and rest.
Jim was the recipient of the UT Accomplishment Award in 2019. He was a very proud Alumni and supporter of the University of Texas. (Hook 'Em).
If you ever drove with Jim, you know that he loved to drive fast. In 2003, he began racing in the Big Bend Open Road Race with his friend Pete and continued through the years with other friends like Dave, Thomas, Marcel, and his son Brant. He got trophies for 3rd place (2016), 2nd place (2011, 2013) and 1st place (2019, 2022).
Jim is survived by his wife Barbara, son Brant (wife Heather), grandchildren Christian, Chase, Michaella and Brady, brother Ben, nieces Katrina and Chaney and many friends, old and new.
