In Loving Memory of James Pyron

James Thurman Pyron, a devoted husband, loving father, admired Papa, adored brother, uncle, and honored veteran, passed away on August 5, 2026. He lived a life marked by integrity, dedication to his anesthesiology career, and an unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

Born in Bellingham, Washington to Mr. and Mrs. Thurman A. Pyron, James graduated from Hobart High School, attended college at Oklahoma City University and later graduated with a doctorate from Vanderbilt University’s Medical School.

He grew up with a strong work ethic and a commitment to serving others. A proud military veteran, he worked as a doctor in the U.S. Navy at Portsmith, Virginia and then in Oakland, California. He served with distinction saving lives and instilling values of honor, strength, and quiet perseverance throughout his life.

Following his military service, James pursued a distinguished career as an anesthesiologist at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Among his friends, colleagues, and patients, he was widely known for his tender demeanor, humility, enormous heart, and selfless personality.

He also loved music from an early age and paid for his beginner piano lessons as a child with the money he earned from his first job. He supported the arts for years. He took great pride in his wife, Norma Jane (Teague) Pyron, and her career as a violinist in several symphonies. He was also an annual supporter of the Dallas Symphony, Dallas Opera, Metropolitan Opera and Santa Fe Opera.

Outside of his work, James found true joy in spending time with his family and friends. He cherished vacationing with loved ones, especially trips to his home away from home in Hawaii, golfing with his son and son-in-law, and spoiling his lovely wife and daughter. He also loved enjoying everything fine in this world, from dining at the newest and best restaurants in town after attending the opera or symphony, to sharing quiet moments with those he loved.

Above all else, James treasured his family. He was a deeply devoted husband to his late wife, Norma Jane (Teague) Pyron, a proud, loving father, and a cherished Papa. Amy and her family were blessed and fortunate to have James live in their home for the past few years.

His presence, wisdom, and warm sense of care will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by:

• His daughter, Amy and her husband, Geoff Leber

• His son, Jimmy and his wife, Jennifer

• His grandchildren, Eden, Bel, Addie Grace, Wyatt and Ike

• His brother, Thomas and his niece, Jennifer Elizabeth

• Extended family members, friends, and colleagues

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma Jane. He will join her in paradise in a very special spot held dear by them both.
