James (Jim) Robert Stocks, Sr. passed away on March 19, 2022 in Denton, Texas. He was 89 years old. Jim was born in Raymond, Iowa on December 20, 1932 to Everett and Elsie (Bryson) Stocks. Jim was the sixth of ten children. He was raised on an Iowa farm, and dropped out of school in eighth grade to help on the family farm. He later received his GED when his own children were in grade school. Jim served in the Marines as a communications officer during the Korean Conflict. Jim traveled all over the country after his discharge from the Marines. When he settled in Des Moines, he met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Reed. They were married 61 years, and had two children. Jim is survived by his wife, two children Carole (Jeff) Endo, and James, Jr. (Kim). He loved being a grandpa to Adam Stocks, Michael Stocks, Matthew Endo, Mark (Ben) Stocks, Tina (Jhovanny) Fermin, Stephanie (Anthony) Stevens, BreAnna Stocks, and John Stocks. Jim cherished childhood memories with his siblings. He is survived by Sarah (Sally) Bast, Don Stocks, Dorothy Hack, and Barb Richards. He is preceded in death by Betty Hemenway, Juanita (Peg) Morgan, Charles Stocks, Lester Stocks, and Delrose Bisbee, as well as his parents Everett and Elsie. Jim was employed by Economy Forms for 25 years. Jim was active in his church and spent many days volunteering and serving on the board of directors at Central Iowa Bible Camp. A memorial service will be held on April 9, at 11 am at First Church of Christ in Ankeny, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Iowa Bible Camp.
