It is with heavy hearts that the family of James Wesley Wallace announce his unexpected death in Dallas, Texas on November 2, 2023.
Wes was a true Texan born in Tyler, Texas on September 26, 1962. He spent his grade school and high school years in Tyler before graduating from Humble High School in Kingwood, Texas. Wes then attended his beloved University of Texas at Austin where he was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity (FIJI) and held membership in the coveted Silver Spurs. Wes's career took him and his family on adventures through Pennsylvania, California and Louisiana until his move back to his much-loved home state of Texas in 2021. From childhood through college and beyond, Wes made many true life-long friends with whom he never lost touch. He was always picking up the phone just to say hello and to let his friends know he was thinking of them.
Wes was truly passionate about the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Wes's love of hunting began with one very memorable trip at the early age of 9 while hunting with his grandfather, Odell Butler. Wes was a natural and outhunted his grandfather and the story even made the local newspaper. His true happiness was being outdoors hunting or fishing with his precious daughter, Anna Scott. He treasured this time together and made the most of every trip, even if she did talk the entire time. His joy began even before they left the house when he "outfitted" her from head to toe, making sure she was fully equipped for all their outdoor adventures.
Wes and his wife, Melissa, spent countless hours at the places he loved and at her family farm, where he proposed to her with hand-picked flowers from the fields. He never stopped bringing her flowers. Melissa and Wes just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.
Wes cherished any time he travelled with his family and friends whether it was to snow ski or fly fish in Crested Butte, hunt birds or big game in South Texas or South America. He loved the world from above and below whether he was flying in the clouds or scuba diving in the open water. He loved it all! Wes enjoyed history, reading and The Weather Chanel. You could always depend on Wes for the most current weather report. If ever he did not know something, he would say "call Gretchen, my sister will know".
Wes was preceded in death by his parents Charlotte Wallace and Donnie Wallace, his younger brother Scott Wallace and his father-in law, Niven D. Morgan, Jr.
Wes is survived by his wife, Melissa; his "Darlin" daughter, Anna Scott; his sister Gretchen Wallace Herrmann and brother-in-law David; mother-in-law, Gloria Morgan; his aunt and uncle, Vickie and Jim Hickman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Melanie and Jedd Lewis, Martha and Tony Anderson, Niven Morgan and Shelby Wagner; cherished nieces and nephews, Brendan Herrmann, Charlotte Herrmann, Jake Lewis (Patrick), Austin Lewis (Mackenzie), Morgan Lewis (Haley), Ainsley Sherman (Stephen), Ashley Terral (Grayson), Claire Newton (William); great nieces and nephews, other family members, loyal friends and his constant canine companion, Belle.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 1 at 10:00 am in Cox Chapel, Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas. Officiating the Memorial will be Reverend Paul Rasmussen.
