Obituary

"And even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God." (Aeschylus) Jan Mires, 1950 ~ 2023 Janice Ann Mires (nee Hudson) passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 14, 2023, one day removed from her 73rd birthday, after a long and brave battle with dementia. She was born in Clovis, New Mexico, the second child and only daughter of Paul and Floy Hudson. A shy but fiery presence, she graduated valedictorian from Melrose High School and later attended and graduated from Texas Tech University. Jan met, fell in love, and married the love of her life, Lee Bivin Mires, Jr., on December 15, 1972. Her husband preceded her in death on April 4, 1990. She never remarried. A lover of horses, cowboys, the West, her family, country music (especially George Strait), vanilla cokes, M&Ms, books, and her home state of New Mexico, Jan was a nostalgic old soul with a servants heart. She lived a quiet and modest life, reading extensively in the evenings, reminiscing with friends, documenting her sons sports games, and traveling on occasion. Though she worked as an executive assistant and paralegal for most of her adult life, her hardest and most rewarding job was raising her son as a single parent. Jan is survived by her son, David Mires; sister-in-law Blanche Hudson; two nephews and their families; and a host of friends and family whom she loved and treasured. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimers Association by visiting www.alz.org or to her memorial fund below. Finally, please honor her memory by not forgetting about your family. Call them up, write them a note, take them for an ice cream, tell them you love them; she would have loved that! Jans final wish was to be cremated and have her ashes spread in her home state of New Mexico. A portion of her ashes will be buried at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 10:30 AM. Please sign the guestbook and leave a note or favorite story about Jan.
