Janie Lu
Everheart
Feb 23, 1943 — Dec 2, 2024
Monday morning we said goodbye to our sweet mother, Janie Lu Everheart. She was born in Kerens, Texas to Walker Pitman "Red" and Maggie Alice Ingram on February 23, 1943. She spent her childhood years in Kerens where she took dance lessons, piano lessons, and had many wonderful experiences with cousins and friends at her grandmother's house in Oak Grove. In high school, she played the bass drum in the marching band and enjoyed acting in school plays. Mom was salutatorian of her high school senior class, and she attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. In later days, she earned a Horticulture License using it to teach floral design at North Lake College. She also earned a Personal Trainer License. She adored her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She loved a celebration and hosted countless gatherings at the house for family and friends. Mom never met a stranger and made friends wherever she went. She was gentle and tender and made each person feel seen and special. She was curious about everything, and no adventure seemed too over the top including zip lining, snorkeling with stingrays, and parasailing. Mom earned her brown belt in Tae Kwon Do when she was 65, and the only thing that kept her from going for her black belt was that her sparring partners at that level were all men, and that gave her a bit of pause. She and Dad took lessons and learned how to play Pickle Ball and golf. She loved exercising and she and Dad were often at the Irving Senior Center taking exercise, swimming, weight training and yoga classes. She would try anything, once. Often our phone conversations found me exclaiming "you did what??" Mom had a green thumb and loved working in her yard. She could grow anything- she once even planted a fruit and vegetable garden inside a hay bale in the driveway - and it worked. She was an outstanding cook, never intimidated to try a new technique, ingredient or tool. Mom was a gifted dressmaker, embroiderer, knitter, a whiz with anything involving needle and thread. She turned this gift into a business and was known for making dresses including wedding, bridesmaids, and prom. She also made costumes for the Irving Community Theater. Mom had a fix and an answer to any problem you may have. She and Dad remained active in the Irving community for over 60 years and volunteered their time to many organizations. They raised us in the church and taught us, by example, to love and serve the lord our savior. Though we will miss her terribly, we have faith that she is celebrating with her heavenly father and all the family and friends who preceded her.
