Obituary

Jeffrey Lloyd Poll died peacefully on Friday, January 3rd, 2025 at the age of 79.

Jeff was born July 2nd, 1945 in Danville, Kentucky to the late Elsie (Gwirtzman) and Daniel Poll. After his father died in 1965, his stepfather Donald Grimmie was an integral part of his life. He grew up in Floral Park, NY where he graduated from Martin Van Buren High School and later attended Penn State University.

Early in his career, he worked in advertising and broadcast sales for the radio stations 770 WABC in New York City and 610 WIP in Philadelphia. In 1978, Jeff accepted a position as the General Manager for the radio station 98 KZEW in Dallas, Texas where he resided for more than 45 years. In 1986, Jeff founded Micro Marketing Group and its subsidiary Hard Warehouse, revolutionizing the ease of purchasing personal computers. Hard Warehouse operated stores throughout the Midwest.

Jeff never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. On Sunday afternoons you could always find him having a burger with "the guys." If there was a problem with your computer, Jeff knew how to fix it. He was an avid photographer and offered to take pictures at weddings, bar mitzvahs, and other events for family and friends. Jeff was highly involved as a Ham radio operator and an American Radio Relay League member since he was 10 years old. He broadcasted all over the world with his call signs NA5S and later K5JP.

Jeff is survived by his daughter, Danielle Craig (Joshua), grandson Miles Craig, sister Leslie Lenox Rockey (Robert), and two nephews, Jason Lenox (Matthew) and Nathan Lenox (Julie).

There will be no formal memorial service; however, a celebration of life will be planned in the near future. Details will follow. In lieu of flowers, Jeff's family requests a donation to the American Radio Relay League with the call sign K5JP, to support the Education & Technology Program or Youth Licensing Grant Program.
