Obituary

Joe Wood Dillard went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 22, 2026, leaving behind a profound legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to his family, community, and faith in Christ. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend, known for his unwavering generosity, integrity, and true gentlemanly spirit.

Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1934, Joe attended Bonham High School. Following graduation, he studied geology at The University of Texas in Austin, where he met the love of his life, Sue Hood Dillard. They were married on July 19, 1958, embarking on a journey that lasted 67 years, built on a strong foundation of love and faith.

Joe graduated with a degree in Geology and pursued his passion for water resource management as a respected businessman and co-owner of JL Meyers, a water well drilling company that served numerous communities throughout Texas. Under his stewardship, the company focused on providing safe and reliable water resources, helping to ensure that families and businesses had access to clean groundwater. His expertise in geology played a vital role in drilling wells that served various communities, most notably those that provided resources for the Hideaway Lake community. Drawn to the beauty and tranquility of this sacred place, Joe and Sue retired there, cherishing 26 years filled with remarkable memories, lasting friendships, and the wonders of God's creation.

An avid golfer and passionate gardener, Joe took immense pleasure in nurturing the yard of their home, creating a beautiful and serene environment that reflected his appreciation for nature. His dedication to his community was evident during his service on the Board of Hideaway Lake, including a term as President from 2007 to 2008. He also devoted his time to his local church, embodying the spirit of service as a weekly volunteer.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Cara Arnold, who adored him and will honor his memory by carrying forward his legacy of kindness and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Dillard; his brother, Al Dillard; and his parents, Albert W. Dillard, Sr. and Ina Wood Dillard.
