John Richard "Dick" Washmon, aged 84 passed away April 28th of natural causes at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on June 8th, 1941 in Harlingen, Texas to parents Adolf "Cut" Washmon and Dorothy Burchard Washmon. He graduated Southern Methodist University and had many career ventures, among which were: running the family business, Aldridge-Washmon Company, an International Harvester dealership of farm equipment in south Texas; being elected City Commissioner of Harlingen; developing beach condominiums in South Padre Island; owning and operating a general contracting business in Dallas; and most recently owning and operating the North Texas Golf Center the 9-hole golf course and driving range in Dallas.
He moved to Dallas in 1984, and met his wife Leah Berst Washmon shortly after. After many years together they married on the patio of Leah's childhood home in DeWitt, Iowa, a place he loved to visit every summer with the entire family. They had two children, Wade Gordon Washmon and Casey Lynn Washmon.
He was a lover of the game of golf, an avid follower of SMU sports, and will be remembered for his business acumen and resilience.
He is survived by his wife Leah Washmon and children Wade Washmon and Casey Pelletier and their spouses Michaela Washmon and Justin Pelletier, new-born granddaughter Georgia Mae Pelletier, John Richard Washmon Jr. and Aimey Washmon and family, Dorothy Leach and family, Wendy Thompson and family, and Tom Washmon and family.
Donations can be made to the Northern Texas PGA Foundation to support kids golf in North Texas, a cause he was passionate about.
