Obituary

Please help us to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of our beloved brother, father, cousin, uncle and husband Johnell Moore. Johnell Moore, also known as "Ell" to family and friends, passed away at his home in Flower Mound, Texas at the age of 66 on February 10, 2025 after a difficult battle with prostate cancer. He was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on September 8, 1958 to Izora (Hutchinson) Moore and Clyde Moore, Sr.

After graduating High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Johnell went on to join the Army and was stationed in Killeen, Texas at Fort Hood. He served for 3 years from 1977 to 1980 as a Tactical Communications Systems / Operator / Mechanic and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Specialist 4.

After his time in the military, Johnell attended college in St Louis, Missouri where he earned his Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification. After graduation, Johnell started his aviation career at TransWorld Airlines (TWA) in Kansas City, Missouri. He subsequently moved to American Airlines in 1991, kicking off a 34 year career at American Airlines in Dallas-Ft Worth, Texas.

Johnell was a friend to everyone at American Airlines. He really enjoyed working at American Airlines, and would often work overtime before he became ill. When he had spare time, Johnell's hobbies included researching and talking everyone's ear off about stock investments, fishing and the Kansas City Chiefs. In his youth, he enjoyed performing magic and was one-half of the Gemini Twins magic act with his childhood friend and neighbor.

He used to say, "I must have a friendly face because people are always talking to me when I'm out in public." Johnell was always making others laugh with his witty sense of humor and friendly demeanor — he really could talk to anyone. Johnell was predeceased by his parents, Izora and Clyde Moore Sr. He is survived by his wife, Yuko Moore; his son, James J. Transou; his daughter Miranda Pellichet Moore; his grandson, Semaj T. Transou; and his siblings Barbara, Shirley, Patricia, Clyde Jr, Verna, Willie and Angelia.

The place of interment of his ashes will be the Veterans National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas and his Memorial / Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel at Gateway Funerals and Cremation on May 30, 2025.
