Obituary

Jose Raul Zuazua, beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother, son, and

dear friend, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026.

Born September 5, 1970 in Laredo, Texas, he called Texas his home his whole life. He

is survived by his loving wife Ofelia and his children – Jose Raul Jr, Monica, Raquel and

Daisy. Raul was a proud grandparent to Cornelius, Jayden, Liliana, and Destiny – who

all brought him a great deal of happiness and were a cherished light in his life.

Raul, the oldest of 4, grew up with his siblings Leo, Damian, and Clarissa and was

raised by dedicated parents Sylvia and Raul. Raul always loved the arts, specifically

music and movies – especially any song sung by Johnny Cash, Elvis or Motown and

any Steven Spielberg or Eddie Murphy movie ("you're going to be a star!").

Raul met the love of his life, Ofelia, in Dallas, Texas and was married 40 years. From

humble beginnings and sharing bags of Cheetos on sunny days in Colorado Park in

Oak Cliff, to raising their children on a ranch in his hometown, and then moving back to

the city they fell in love in. Raul and Ofelia built their lives from the ground up, livin' on a

prayer and had each other no matter what.

Raul held no grudges and encouraged his children, family, and friends to see the best

side of people, but always put family first, even when things were hard. He was a

strong-willed man who spoke his mind and valued those closest to him above all else.

His legacy, lessons, and love will live on through us always.
