Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Joseph A. DeJulia, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and American veteran. Joseph passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, at the age of 95 in the compassionate care of The Parson's House Preston Hollow Memory Care in Dallas, Texas, where he lived for the last two years of his life.

Born on September 20, 1929 to Angelo and Lena DeJulia in Sharpsville, PA, Joseph's life was defined by his service to others as a brave Air Force officer, a skilled dentist, and a devoted provider for his family.

Joseph proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1958, and the National Guard until 1970; During that time he displayed exceptional courage and skill. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroic actions in saving the crew and failing C124 cargo aircraft "Old Shakey" during a critical transport of the Atlantic Ocean.

In 1957, Joseph married the love of his life, Carol Sailer of Stony Point, NY, in Haverstraw, NY. After his military service, he pursued a new chapter as a dentist after graduating Columbia University in 1962. His was known for his dedication, skill, and the genuine care he showed to every patient he treated. Together they raised six children and through his example taught them the values of integrity, hard work and commitment.

In 2000, Joseph and Carol relocated to Hobe Sound Florida, where they remained active members of St. Christopher's Catholic Church, and enjoyed playing golf as well as spending time with their friends.

Joseph is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; his parents, Lena and Angelo DeJulia; his sister, Marie; his son Joseph Jr.; and his daughter Karen (DeJulia-Bartholomew). He is survived by his children: Deborah Alcala (Tommy) of Dallas, Texas, John DeJulia (Helena) of Central Valley, NY, Robert DeJulia (Anna) of Palm City, Florida and Patricia DeJulia-Reichenbach (Ralph) of Edmonton, Canada. He also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren—Giuliana (Alcala) Clanin (Zachary), Thomas Joseph (TJ) Alcala (Alex Tremitiere), Briella Bartholomew-Viellena (Sean), Caroline Bartholomew, Robbie DeJulia, Cassie DeJulia, Jessica DeJulia—and one great-grandchild, Milo Alcala, whose presence brought Joseph endless joy in his final two years.

Joseph's life was one of exceptional service, honor, and love. He touched the lives of many, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial mass will be held on July 26, 2025, at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church, 26 John St., Stony Point, NY, followed by a Celebration of Life reception. A graveside service will follow at Mount Repose Cemetery, US-9W & US-202, Haverstraw, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a Veterans' Organization or The Parson's House Preston Hollow Memory Care in Dallas, Texas, in his memory.
