Obituary

June Jennett (Jeannette) Kimbrell Jones passed from this Earth into the arms of her Lord on March 8, 2025, in Dallas, Texas.

Jeannette is the older of twin daughters, the youngest children of Samuel Asa "Acie" Kimbrell and Ella Elva "Evelyn" Todd, born July 26, 1936, in Glen Rose, Texas. Jeannette is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald Dean Jones, her older brother Acie Jarrit Kimbrell, older sisters Carmelita Giles and Virginia Whitney, and her twin sister Jewell Annette Adams. She is survived by her older brother Bobbie Kimbrell, her children Donna Harper and husband Scott, Cyndy Verhoeven and husband David, Dean Jones, and Norman Jones. She is also survived by her beautiful grandchildren, Hope Dixon and husband John, Matthew Reed and wife Janae, Thomas Verhoeven and wife Josie, and Daniel Verhoeven and wife Alexis. She is the extra proud great-grandmother of Kaylee, Alyssa, Jayce, Cambria, Leah, Alle, Mila, Mackenzie, Harry and Arthur (Ace), and a multitude of much-loved nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Flour Bluff High School (Texas) in 1954, Mom married Donald Jones in 1955 and became an Air Force wife traveling back and forth over the years with kids in tow from Texas to Montana and Mississippi and back again to Texas. She used to say she was in the Air Force too! Mom had a love, appreciation and talent for painting, a gift beautifully passed down to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom loved music, especially hymns and movie musicals, and many days would wake us kids up to get ready for school with her rendition of 'Oh What a Beautiful Morning' or 'Wake Up You Sleepyhead'! She loved beaches and lighthouses, plants and flowers, especially yellow irises, and even had a small patio vegetable garden. One of her most favorite places to go was the Dallas Arboretum during the different seasons. She was a meticulous recordkeeper and excellent genealogy researcher, the best babysitter for our children, and a seamstress who made lots of our clothes for school and special times like summer camps and Girls Auxiliary coronations. She even helped alter her granddaughter-in-law's wedding dress! Mom loved all her families and shared that sweet spirit everywhere she went. In Don's final years, she was his primary caretaker, always there for him.

Mom gave and lived her life to serve her Lord, and as a Christian, she was the "real deal' in action, name and association, even singing her favorite hymns and quoting John 3:16 to her caregivers. She taught younger girls Sunday School before she married, taught the Sunbeams and World Friends classes at Lochwood Baptist Church in Dallas during the 60's and 70's, was a part of the Women's Missionary Union and involved with other church activities including Vacation Bible School. Mom graduated from Galen College of Medical and Dental Assistants after which she was a dental assistant in Dallas and McKinney, TX for several years. She worked at her father's Red Dot Bait Stand on the Intracoastal Canal of Texas and could shuck oysters like a pro! Mom also worked at the Aransas Pass Progress newspaper for a few years and was the church librarian at First Baptist Church in Princeton, TX.

She was known as Grandie to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Aunt Jeannette to her nieces and nephews, Mom to her kids, G-net to her siblings, and Jeannette to her friends.
