Obituary

Kerwin Donald Kaaz Born on January 26, 1930 in Atchison, KS and died on June 2, 2018 in Plano, TX. Parents were Otto Henry Kaaz and Anna Louise Frieda Thaden. Kerwin grew up in Atchison, graduated high school and then attended Kansas State College (Later Kansas State University). He graduated in 1951 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He was in the ROTC while in college, then served in USAF after college. He was stationed at Wright-Patterson, Patrick, and finally Edwards AFB in CA. He served from 1951 to 1954. Then he was hired by Schlumberger Well Services and spent his entire career working for them in the oil field services industry. He and the family moved many times during that career, living in multiple cities in Kansas, Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Ohio, before returning to Texas, where he eventually retired. It was at K-State that he met the love of his life, Bernyce Thomas, at a military ball. In 1952, they were married in her home town, Arkansas City, KS, a year after they both graduated. They began their life together in the Mojave Desert, at Edwards AFB. He was a hard worker and his idea of relaxation was to work on cars and trucks and home repairs. He did take some time to go fishing and camping in the Rockies, in Colorado, Wyoming, Canada, and Alaska. He also liked watching some football and Nascar. He was a lifelong faithful member of the Lutheran Church. He was not an outgoing person, but truly enjoyed gatherings with his family and close friends. He liked to grill and he liked his beer. He is preceded in death by his parents: Otto and Frieda; his wife, Bernyce; and his son, Kirk. He is survived by four of his children: Karen Vantine, Judi Doyle, Ken Kaaz, and James Kaaz; eight grandchildren: Mike Vantine, Austin Kaaz, Sydney Kaaz, Kade Kaaz, Tanner Kaaz, Seth Kaaz, Jenna Kaaz, and Stephanie Kaaz; and extended family and dear friends.
