Kathleen Ann
Helwick
Nov 28, 1942 — Apr 4, 2025
Kathleen (Kathy) Ann Helwick
November 28, 1942 – April 4, 2025
Carrollton, TX
Kathy Helwick, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who made a lasting impact on everyone she met, passed away on April 4, 2025.
Kathy was born on November 28, 1942, in Connersville, Indiana to Voyd and Vashti Kuntz. A 1964 graduate of SMU, she served as a math teacher at J.L. Long Middle School in East Dallas. After raising her children, she boldly reinvented her professional path with a highly successful career in data processing and computer programming.
Kathy was a loving mother to Charlyn Lambrecht and Ron Chapman, Jr., a devoted Nana to six grandchildren, and a best friend and partner to her husband, David (Dave) Helwick, for over 34 years. Their bond was a cornerstone of her life, and she will be remembered for the love, laughter, and support she gave him.
Dedicated to creating lasting memories for her family, Kathy attended countless sporting events, recitals, and productions of her kids and grandkids, insisted on taking family pictures at every holiday gathering, needlepointed personalized Christmas stockings for each family member, and crocheted beautiful afghan blankets.
Kathy generously volunteered for a variety of organizations, including the Girl Scouts, Good Shepherd Ministries, Good Sam Club, the Red Cross, and her beloved Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry overseeing Outreach programming. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed socializing with her friends in the Country Place neighborhood in Carrollton and at church, and relished her numerous cross-country RV trips with Dave. Her acts of service extended to all corners of her life, and her love for her family and deep faith were at the heart of everything she did.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Dave Helwick; her children, Charlyn (Greg) Lambrecht and Ron (Beth) Chapman, Jr.; her cherished grandchildren, Caleb (Joy) Lambrecht, Brianna Lambrecht, Eleanor Chapman, Brayden Lambrecht, Abby Chapman, and Kendall Lambrecht; and her sister, Peggy (Ronnie) Barnes. She was preceded in death by her parents and other close family members.
Kathy will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and service will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 14, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 11122 Midway Rd, Dallas, TX 75229, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Kathy to the Alzheimer's Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/KathyHelwick.
