Kelly Wayne Randall
November 8, 1954 - June 23, 2024
Kelly Wayne Randall of Dallas, Texas, died peacefully at home on Sunday, June 23rd, just a few short months after being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS/Lou Gehrig disease). Kelly was 69 years old.
Born in Jacksonville, Texas to the late AJ Randall (d. 2022) and Mary Ann Randall (d. 2015), Kelly was the oldest of their three children. He is survived by his sister Cheryl and brother Jeff, as well as their stepmother Annette, three nephews, and numerous cousins.
Kelly is also survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Sherri, and their son Alan James Randall, both of whom remain deeply grateful for the many blessings of their years with Kelly.
As a young adult and until parenthood was imminent, Kelly primarily worked in the restaurant industry, first as a cook (Montana Mining Company - Richardson, TX) and later as founding manager of two Schlotzsky's franchises (Duncanville & Grand Prairie, TX).
Embracing his chosen role as a parent & provider, Kelly attended Richland College (Associate of Applied Science - Data Processing, 1986) and UT Dallas (Bachelor of Science - Computer Science, 1990) in order to follow a new career in PC tech support. In 2018, Kelly accepted an early retirement offer from Automatic Data Processing (Dallas, TX) following 25 years of service there.
After retiring from ADP, Kelly puttered around for a few months of semi-leisure before looking for a new job. He was delighted to eventually find work as a part-time gallery attendant at the Dallas Museum of Art, where he spent his days on his feet surrounded by beautiful and provocative art, instead of hunched over a computer keyboard talking to strangers on the phone.
Kelly's two periods of working at DMA were interrupted by a stressful stint as a Walmart greeter (during a pandemic! after recovering from a serious car crash), and he was genuinely saddened to leave the Museum in February 2024 due to his declining health.
Kelly's pastimes included collecting a vast body of work by and about Bob Dylan (music, books, movies and more music), regularly attending local film and video festivals, and telling Sherri not to go out in the rain because she was allegedly "made of sugar, and will melt".
Sherri is planning a Celebration of Life service for Kelly that will take place in December 2024, on or around what would have been their 40th wedding anniversary. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to "I AM ALS" or to Kelly & Sherri's faith home, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Oak Cliff.
