Sandy was a teacher. She spent decades educating countless students, and her entire life - until her last breath - demonstrating to her family and friends how to love deeply, creating a large, tight-knit circle of loved ones. Sandy was also a student - a student of faith who was always eager to learn as much as she could about our Lord and share her knowledge with others. Sandy passed away August 1, 2019 at the age of 72. She was preceded in death only seven months ago by her husband David, the love of her life for more than 50 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents Merle and Garvice Hill. She was born in Dallas Texas on August 11, 1946. Sandy was raised in Dallas, graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1964, and was proud to know some of her grandchildren will attend her alma mater. She attended Texas Tech University where she met David, whom she married in 1968 at Highland Baptist Church on Oak Lawn Avenue. She was a loving and devoted mother who taught her children - Jill, Ashley and Wade - to be independent while knowing that faith and family would be a constant safety net. To her grandchildren, she was known as Emmy, but she always called her grandchildren "her preciouses" and made each and every one of them feel that way. Sandy was a dedicated public school teacher for more than 30 years. She began her career with Dallas ISD and made lifelong friends from the very beginning. Her career path led her to DeSoto High School and Permenter Middle school in Cedar Hill. She spent the final 17 years of her teaching career at Lake Highlands High School. She worked extensively with kids from troubled backgrounds, which was often challenging, but her sense of humor, laid back approach, and loving spirit made her a favorite among her students. Nothing pleased her more than their success stories. Sandy loved to laugh, talk and tell stories, but she truly relished listening. She found everyone interesting and worthy of her ear, undivided attention, and unconditional love. When serving others at church, Wesley Rankin, her friends, family or strangers, she was content being in the background, ensuring everyone was happy and content. She loved to cook, but sharing meals with others was her passion. Her greatest love was watching her grandchildren's activities and sharing her faith with them. She never shied away from telling them her latest Bible Study lesson. And, of course, because its movies center on love and kindness, Sandy loved the Hallmark Channel. Sandy is survived by daughter Jill and husband Jay and their children Spencer, Andrew and Annie; daughter Ashley and husband Jimmy and their sons Hank, Will, Sam and Fitz; son Wade and wife Lauri and their daughters Gracie, Maggie and Julia, nieces, nephews and countless cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10 at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of University Park UMC, 4024 Caruth, Dallas, TX 75225 where Sandy's life will be remembered and celebrated through word and song with a reception following in Fellowship Hall.
