Obituary

Today we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., born January 15, 1929 and died April 4, 1968. Dr. King is known most for his pivotal role in the Civil Rights movement in the United States of America. He led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott, helped found the SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), led and organized several watches and protests, and perhaps most famously, delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech on August 28th, 1963. during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. His work in nonviolent protests and promotion of civil rights earned him a Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. King was assassinated on April 4th in Memphis, Tennessee. He has been posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Congressional Gold Medal, and we now celebrate a national holiday to honor his life work. We can all reflect on him now, and continue his mission of bringing peace, freedom, and equality to all people.
