Franklin Lester Kirk, 89, passed away after a brief struggle with cancer on the 20th of May 2014 with his beloved wife, Edie, at his bedside.
Frank was born on the 5th of August 1924, in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Robert and Mamie Vickery Kirk. He attended the University of Manitoba for two years, then enlisted in the US Navy. Upon his return he completed his degree in business and then married the love of his life, Katherine Edith dePencier, in August, 1946. They were blessed to enjoy 68 years of marriage, three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Frank was a successful executive who began his career at Swift and Co. and later joined Farmland Industries, and then Hygrade Foods. After 38 years and many moves throughout the US and Canada, he retired in 1986.
A generous man and a committed Christian, Frank was active in his church and community wherever he lived. He served on many vestries, homeowner associations, Rotary clubs, and more. Wherever he perceived a need, he met it with energy and enthusiasm.
Family was Frank's greatest joy. He loved nothing better than to be surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Edie, son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Lynne Kirk of Bellingham, WA, daughter and son-in-law Lenni and Bill Burke of Houston, and daughter Kat Kirk of Carrollton. He will also be missed by four grandchildren, Steven, Scott, William, and Kaylen, two great grandchildren, Kaden and Jaxon, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Requiem Eucharist honoring Frank on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Communion, 17405 Muirfield Rd., Dallas, TX 75287, where Frank will receive military honors and a reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
